Dominic Sloan loomed in the doorway. He looked at where she sat on the floor with papers and documents spread around her.

“You shouldn’t be in here.” He advanced toward her, and she scrambled to stand as he snatched the papers from her hands.

“This is private property!” he yelled.

She stepped back to move away from him. “Why do you have a land title for Aurora? Who is Jack Morana?”

“None of your goddam business!”

“Does this have anything to do with Shane Bishop? What do you know about him? You found that watch somehow, didn’t you?” Her voice shook as the questions poured out. “Claudia was right. You were talking to someone!”

His eyes turned on her like a shark and he gripped her arm. “I didn’t want it to come to this, but you give me no choice. I told you to stay out of my business!”

One of his associates charged up the stairs and stood leaning against the door frame. The only way out was through that door, and that was precisely where she intended to go. Now! Snapping her arm free, Drew broke through the space between the man and the frame, only to stumble to the floor. The man grabbed her, pulling her to her feet. Two more men charged up the stairs. She was surrounded.

She screamed as a huge hand clamped over her mouth. She kicked her feet trying to make contact, but the grip on her was too tight.

“Got her!”

“Bring her inside.”

Enid!

She tried to will the ghost girl back for help. If Enid could sense her fear, surely the terror ripping through her would be enough to send a message.

They dragged her back into the small room. The man holding her captured her muffled shrieks into his hand. His pudgy fingers smelled of metal and rust. Her stomach lurched—maybe if she threw up, he would let her go.

Dominic Sloan gathered the papers from the floor and dropped them on the desk. Sitting in the armchair behind it, he leaned back and linked his fingers together. His calmness terrified her.

“I cannot allow him to release you unless you’re willing to cooperate. And this—” He gestured toward her. “…Is not conducive to cooperation. Tell me, Miss Harlow, are you going to continue screaming? Because if so, I have ways to silence you. Your choice. Sit and talk, or scream. Your choice.” He reached down and placed a gun on the desk.

He was a psycho, and he wanted her dead. She had no other choice but to play his game. She nodded her head.

Yes, sit and talk. No more screaming.

“Let her speak.”

She coughed as the hand released from her mouth. “You’re crazy!”

Dominic Sloan nodded to the man, and he carried her to a wooden chair, plopping her down with a thud. He stood over her and reached for a gun from inside his suit jacket. They were going to kill her. She looked around for an escape route. It wasn’t looking good. She faced her captor. He sat there like he was at a dinner party.
